MEXICO CITY, July 16, 2008 (AFP) - The Mexican navy has intercepted a submarine carrying a suspected drug shipment in Pacific waters off the coast of Oaxaca state, a navy spokesman said Wednesday.

'We are trying to confirm the quantity and the type' of the drug, the spokesman said.

The crew was detained, according to Reforma newspaper, and the submarine was towed to a military base near the resort town of Huatulco.
