Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero congratulated Barack Obama on his election as US president during a telephone conversation Friday, government sources were quoted as saying.Zapatero received a call from Obama in reply to one he had made a few days ago. The two spoke for 10 minutes, stressing their desire to confront the world financial crisis, fight global warming and cooperate in Latin American policy, media quoted the sources as saying.
The Spanish government head congratulated Obama on his victory in Tuesday`s vote and pointed out the `impact` it had had in Spain.
