Sub carrying 352 mln dlrs of cocaine raided by US Coast Guard

LOS ANGELES, Aug 22, 2007 (AFP) - A submarine carrying cocaine worth an estimated 352 million dollars was intercepted by US authorities off the coast of Central America, authorities said Wednesday.

US Customs and Border Protection said the semi-submersible vessel -- which is only partially visible from the surface -- was spotted by a surveillance plane some 300 miles (482 kilometers) southwest of the Mexico-Guatemala border on Monday.

Bizarre submersible found floating off New York

NEW YORK, Aug 3, 2007 (AFP) - New York authorities were questioning three men after intercepting a bizarre submersible vessel found floating just off Manhattan on Friday, police said.

The men were discovered early Friday near the cruise terminal in Brooklyn where the massive ocean liner the Queen Mary 2 was moored, police said.

What the three men were doing with the sub -- which appeared to be spherical with a circular hatch on top -- was not immediately clear.

Bizarre submersible found floating off New York: reports

NEW YORK, Aug 3, 2007 (AFP) - New York authorities were questioning three men found in a bizarre submersible vessel floating just off Manhattan on Friday, according to local reports.

The men were discovered early Friday near the cruise terminal in Brooklyn where the massive ocean liner The Queen Mary II is moored, ABC television reported on its website.

When asked about the incident, a police spokeswoman declined to confirm the report or provide any further information, saying only that officers were at the scene.
