Top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova tumbled out of the Indian Wells hardcourt tennis tournament Saturday, falling to unseeded Spaniard Carla Suarez-Navarro. Suarez-Navarro beat the error-prone Russian 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, handing Kuznetsova her second second-round exit in as many years in the California desert. Kuznetsova, the French Open champion who has struggled to get her 2010 season rolling, had 60 unforced errors in the match lasting 1hr 56min.

Second-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki clawed her way into the third round of the WTA hardcourt tournament here Friday with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory over American Vania King. Wozniacki, ranked fourth in the world and a finalist at last year's US Open, trailed 1-4 in the third set but managed to fight back against the 76th-ranked King with breaks in the seventh and ninth games.

Australian Open semi-finalist Li Na of China was bundled out of the second round of the Indian Wells hardcourt tennis tournament on Friday by British qualifier Elena Baltacha. Baltacha, ranked 65th in the world, survived two match points in the third-set tiebreaker en route to a 7-6 (8/6), 2-6, 7-6 (9/7) victory over Li, the world number 10 who is seeded seventh here.

Justine Henin, whose return to tennis has so far yielded two finals appearances in two tournaments - including a Grand Slam runner-up finish - won't have another dream run here. Argentina's Gisela Dulko defeated the former world number one 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 on Friday to reach the third round of the Indian Wells hardcourt tennis tournament, an event Henin won in 2004 and in which Dulko has never made it past the quarter-finals.

Former Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal has confirmed he will start his bid to regain the grass-court grand slam by competing at Queen's in June. Nadal was unable to defend the Wimbledon crown he won in 2008 after a knee injury forced him to withdraw from last year's event. But the Spaniard is determined to dethrone Roger Federer and will play in the pre-Wimbledon warm-up event, which he won in 2008, in an attempt to hone his grass-court game before heading to the All England Club.

World number one Roger Federer faces a potentially difficult path to the final of the Indian Wells hardcourt tournament, the season's first prestigious ATP Masters 1000 event. The top-seeded Swiss is seeded to meet seventh-seeded American Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals and last year's runner-up, Andy Murray of Britain, in the semi-finals.
